Your health is your most important asset.
The following steps can help you to stay healthy.
- Follow Guidelines for Preventive Screenings – See your healthcare provider regularly, and be sure to have routine screenings, such as a mammogram and colonoscopy. Know your numbers – blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.
- Get Moving! – Too many Delawareans aren’t getting the amount of physical activity they need daily – 30 minutes for adults, and 60 minutes for children. Walk, bike, dance, play sports, take a fitness class – there are lots of options. Check out the Lt. Governor’s Challenge - you could win a medal for moving! Register at www.state.de.us/ltgov or call 577-8787.
- Choose to Lose – If you’re carrying around extra weight, you’re at risk for diabetes, heart disease, and a host of other medical problems. To lose weight, you need to eat less and move more. Avoid fad diets – talk with your healthcare provider or a registered dietitian about a sensible weight loss plan.
- If You Smoke, Get Help to Quit – Quitting smoking is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It’s never too late to quit, and there are free resources available to help you. Contact the Delaware Quitline at 1-866-409-1858.
- Eat Wisely – The foods we choose daily can have an impact on our health and our energy levels. For good health, we need to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, choose whole grains, lean protein sources and low fat dairy products. It’s wise to limit your consumption of sugary drinks, sweets and fried foods.
