Worksite / Community Presentation

Title: "Be Healthy Delaware"
Program length:
20-60 minutes, dependent on time alloted
Equipment need: LCD projector or overhead projector (optional)

Presenter: Marianne Carter, MS, RD, CHES

Overview of the Presentation: Much of the healthcare expenditure in Delaware, and nationally, is for the treatment of preventable lifestyle-related diseases, such as heart disease and type II diabetes. Despite the fact that we are "The First State", we rank 30th in the nation when it comes to the health of our residents! This presentation will highlight how Delawareans can take personal responsiblity for maintinaing their helath through their day-to-day habits. Participants will learn 5 steps that they can take as individuals to prevent chronic illness. Available resources will be reviewed, for those interested in making lifestyle changes such as starting an exercise progrm or quitting smoking. Time will be allotted for questions and answers.

Presenter Information: Marianne Carter is a registered dietitian employed as Director of the Delaware Center for Health Promotion. Marianne has a Master's degree in Health Education, is a certified health education speciliast, and is the author of the bi-weekly News-Journal column, "Weigh-In". Marianne is a past president of the Delaware Dietetic Association, past Chair of the Governor's Committee of Dietetics and Nutrition, and is a current member of the Governor's Council on Lifestyle and Fitness.
